The Mechanism and Clinical Evidence of Venoactive Drugs
Roh Young-Nam
Abstract
A variety of drugs have been developed for chronic venous insufficiency, and they are called VenoActive Drug (VAD). VADs are known to be effective through an increase of venous tone, increased capillary resistance and decreased permeability, improved lymphatic circulation, altered hemorrhagic-thrombotic pathway, and reduced inflammatory response. However, the effect of VADs has not been proved from large-scale randomized controlled trials with strong evidence, and their use requires careful judgment by clinicians. Here, we investigated the scientific basis of VADs and examine the clinical evidence of these medicines.
